Twilight CRAZE

Ok. So back in the sixth grade i fell into the whole Harry Potter craze because my best friend at the time loved them and you know how it is in jr. high, you wanna do everything that your friend does. SO that lasted until…my junior year in college just due to the fact that the lady took SO DAMN LONG to release all the books. But they were great books nonetheless. And yes i was one of those crazy potter fans that had their name on the waiting list for the books and went to the midnight showings…but that really was the only thing ive ever fallen into like that…ive never been a trekky or whatever or into all that star wars BS. BUT ANYWAYS. so i had kinda heard of these twilight books just by going to the book store and seeing them on the bestsellers list and always considered reading them because i love to read but just never could find the time or enthusiasm to read a book about vampires falling in love. Then its like out of nowhere this CRAZE hit and everyone was obsessed with them and they were sold out all over the place and a movie was coming out….i was like WHHHHAT. I mean it was EVERYWHERE. It was like a bunch of people came out of hiding that were secret vampire lovers….it was odd. But anywho i decided to read them last week. I read the first two in about 24 hours. Now i’m not going to knock them and say they aren’t worth reading. And i can totally see how some lovesick little kids would totally fall into all this stuff but i dunno. The way i look at it is that Harry Potter was this whole new way of looking at things and almost made you think that maybe that could happen…maybe we were all muggles and there was a secret wizard land but this vampire thing is just a stretch for me and with each book it just gets less and less believable. PLUS i’m a single 21 year old girl….i’m not trying to read about some teenagers in high school meeting for three damn days and deciding they are in LOVE and can’t live without each other..blah blah blah. So basically all this seems like an overreaction to a decent teenage book. You can’t even turn the channel with out seeing a preview or hearing interviews from the actors or fans. Little outta hand.

So, i’m leaving for florida in a month on what was suppose to be a much needed vacation, but has turned into more of a job interview. Growing up….certainly happens fast sometimes. So what my game plan is when i get there is to try and already have an interview set up. A family friend recently retired from working at Disney and has some sort of pull down there so i’m hoping to get the chance to talk to him over Thanksgiving break and have him help me set up the interview. I’m sort of getting to the point where i’m not going to be too picky when it comes to finding an internship for the fall, just as long as its FAR from here and will give me the experiance i need for my future career. I just don’t have too much experiance when it comes to my PR major other then projects for the school so i just hope i can dazzle them with my personality or something to that effect =)

Everyone is Quitting?!

OK..so i’m sure everyone has heard this silly business of all the celebraties saying that they are quitting show business. For example, stupid Angelina Jolie, WTF? she like what…35 maybe…hasn’t even been on the scene very long and all the sudden she wants to tell us she is just going to be done acting at the peak of her career? I promise you that she spent more time trying to become an actress then she has spent as a successful one. Even though she’s cleaned up her act and successfully stolen a very hott husband and adopted and had about a million babies in 5 years, we still remember her as the creepy lady that dated billy bob and made out publicly with her brother. My opinion on all this silliness is that she its a grand PR stunt. She gunna be just like JayZ i mean how many times has he retired and made a HUGE deal about it just to turn around and release more songs?! ya…thats what i thought. Little Miss Jolie/Pitt may say she is done acting and off to save the world, but i promise you she’ll be back. Maybe shes just not getting enough attention for her high self esteem and need just a little more publicity..but whatever for all i care..GOOD BYE TO YOU!

So maybe i should have changed my focus topic to the election or something because for some reason i have never gotten so into an election. Well clearly the time as past and the country has decided that they were just uneducated enough to elect Obama into the White House. OK, here is my main pet peeve about the election. On the day of, i of course went to vote, and got one of those ï voted” stickers on my shirt and then went to work. When people slowly began to ask me who i was voting for i told them, of course and when i would ask back and they would say Obama i’d ask them why. And to my surprise of the ignorance of people most said “Because i’m Democrat”or “He’s black” or ” He wants change” i’m like…SERIOUSLY? at least when i went to vote i was smart enoug to get educated on both canidates but it was people like these ignorant souls that got a man elected they may just not be qualified enough. But the way i look at it now is ok, fine, everyone has been bitching for the last eight years that the Republicans and Bush have done such an awful job, then by ALL means go ahead…show us you guys can do better. Because its been a hard eight years and i feel our country has been lead by smart enough people to do the BEST with what they were handed. Bush didn’t have a cake eight year term he was forced to make difficult desicions and there is alot we can’t understand about the government for our protection and maybe we just don’t know exactly what is going and ..SHOCKINGLY..we may not know everything. So like i said before…Go ahead…change everything..fix all our problems….

yet another election post

So with the upcoming election and all the buzz around who is going to win i still feel it hard to believe that these are the two canidates we have to choose from. Just today it was posted that Obama is ahead in all the key states…makes me a little nervous. Not that i’m pro McCain at ALL. ( as i’ve said previously) but my fear when it comes to Obama is that his whole “CHANGE” campaign is going to catch up to him and us and we are going to be forced to change things too fast and either cause massive inflation which inturn will lead us into another depression..or nothing will change at all bc in fact obama is just a grand public speaker. Of course americans are lookin at him and hearing all his great speeches, but you have to realize that we have been listening to Bush for eight years who is probably one of the worst public speakers…ever. Writing and speaking is what Obama does best..he came out with a book how many years ago? So maybe McCain doesn’t have all the elequent speaking abilities but he does have experiance in the one major epidimic in America today…War. He’s been there..he’s done that. and he knows what we have to do in order to SAFELY and EFFECTIVLY remove the troops. At this point in the war we can’t just simply say “ok boys get on this plane and have a nice flight…thanks alot!” we have invaded a country we have this country to think about and the safety of civilians. and ya i don’t really think either canidate is going to be a T.R or a Clinton but i really do believe that if Obama does in fact get elected we will see much more harm then good for the United States…but hell…what do i know.. i’m just 21.

So, This focus topic thing for my PR writing class…when i was deciding what i was going to choose as my focus topic i tried to keepin mind that i want to pick something that will keep me interested for the enitre semester and something i could also benefit from. Well……i decided to pick the peace corps for a couple of reasons… My THEN boyfriend of nearly four years had recently joined the peace corps and for the LIFE of me i just couldn’t understand why he would want and do something as silly as be gone from me for two years..( selfish i know!) soooo for a long time i just avoided the entire conversation and pretended like it actually wasn’t happening..but then this bf of mine decided that he was just going to UP and quit talking to me…probably doing the ” noble thing” and trying to make me be happy bc he was leaving and didn’t wanna make me go through all the waiting..LA DE DA right?! soo realizing this i decided that i needed to better understand what the peace corps was and why he was so interested in doing this. Well…this week we were suppose to write a News Release over our focus topic..so i’m surfing around the Peace Corps Site and guess what i find….deaths in the peace corps..NOT something i was wanting to read about but i suppose something i needed to come to face with. Soooo…now i’m thinking maybe this whole peace corps focus topic was a bad idea…maybe i shouldn’t have found out that death was a possiblity in the Peace Corps business….but… i suppose its better to be well informed then be caught off guard…just hope i don’t hear more more about lost lives through the peace corps…might lose my sanity a bit.

30 Seconds to Mars sued by record label

Jared Leto, the lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars, and his band are currently being sued by Virgin Records. The band was suppose to release 3 albums within 5 years as of July of this year their five year contract was up and they had falled to release their third album. Since Virgin Records relized the failure to complete their contract they have sued 30 Seconds To Mars for 30 Millions dollars.

Apparently however within the state of California a contract can only last for a maximum of seven years and this was the nineth year of the contract the band signed. Also the band never recieved a penny for their last album that sold over 2 million copies, so in the long run their final album was just going to be making up for the debt the company owed the band for their last album. I think that the best way to solve this conflict is for the label and band to simply understand both positions and drop the entire lawsuit.
